Canterbury Summer Theatre Hosts Kick Off Show

NWIBQ News LogoCanterbury Summer Theatre, one of the Midwest's oldest professional summer companies, will present its 2017 Season Kick-Off Show on Sunday, June 11, at Canterbury Theatre, 807 Franklin Street in Michigan City.

A light meal will be served at 4:30 PM, and the performance will begin at 6:00 PM. Admission is free, and reservations can be made by calling (219) 874-4269.

The presentation will introduce, and features performances by, the Canterbury Resident Company, who have been hired from a nationwide search, and hail from North Carolina, Ohio, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Illinois.

A preview of the upcoming season will also be featured, which includes Last Train to Nibroc (June 14-17), Have a Nice Day!–The '70s Musical Flashback (June 21-July 1), Tomorrow Morning (July 5-15), Love, Linda (The Life of Mrs. Cole Porter) (July 19-29), in honor of the 125th birthday of Indiana native, Cole Porter, and The Haunting of Hill House (August 3-5).

Also, raffle tickets will be available for a chance to win a prize package that includes a pair of tickets to see the smash hit, Hamilton, at the PrivateBank Theatre in Chicago on September 13th, with VIP Suite Service, as well as a gift certificate for a pre-show lunch at The Grillroom Chophouse & Winebar.

Artistic Director, Ray Scott Crawford, Dean of Performing Arts and Communication at Bossier Parish Community College, returns for his 32nd year helming Canterbury.

Canterbury Summer Theatre is now in its 49th season of productions, and boasts former company members who have gone on to star in film, television, on the stages of Broadway and regional theatres, and hold prominent positions in the professional and educational performing arts fields.

Canterbury Summer Theatre is produced under the auspices of the Canterbury Guild, a nonprofit performing arts organization, with funding support by the Michigan City Community Enrichment Corporation and the NIPSCO Community Investment Program.
